First time using Natpro
What may occur when using Progesterone Cream for the first time
It is most important that you understand and are aware of certain symptoms which may be experienced when using progesterone cream for the first time.
People react differently to certain things, what may cause you discomfort, will not to others. You may experience 'adverse' symptoms often encountered by men and women if they have a naturally high level of estrogen or, in the case of women, who have been on HRT (hormone replacement therapy) or the contraceptive Pill for any length of time and therefore have low progesterone levels. In some cases you may feel an ache or a pain in your joints, or you may retain water, or put on some weight. Please persevere with the progesterone cream, DO NOT stop using it as these uncomfortable symptoms should clear up within a week IF used as suggested.
As you use progesterone it will gradually become the dominant hormone which is what is needed. As this happens symptoms begin to ease.
Some women never experience estrogen dominance, in others it can take several days, whilst in others it can last longer. Much depends on the amount of excess estrogen that is present. Men can also experience estrogen dominance when first using progesterone.
You are estrogen dominant if you experience some of the symptoms listed below.
Men also experience these symptoms apart from the obvious women's problems
- aches and pains
- anger
- bleeding which comes either earlier or later than usual
- bloating/weight gain due to water retention
- breast tenderness
- bruising
- constipation
- dizziness
- headaches
- heart palpitations
- hot flushes
- hypoglycaemia
- increased appetite/cravings
- irritation
- migraines
- mild depression
- mood swings
- muscle weakness
- nausea
- skin problems/acne/melasma
- spotting
- tiredness/chronic fatigue
If you experience any of these symptoms then your choice is to either...
- increase the dose and persevere with the symptoms, or
- reduce the dose considerably to begin with and then gradually increase it over a month or two. This will understandably take longer to resolve symptoms
Please follow these instructions when using progesterone cream for the first time
- If you no longer follow a monthly cycle and are experiencing menopausal symptoms i.e. hot flushes etc, progesterone cream must be used every day.
- Please use 6ml or 1 heaped teaspoon per day - 3ml in the morning and 3ml at night. Use this amount for 5 days, then slowly start to reduce. If you reduce too quickly you will soon know about it as your symptoms will return. Should this happen simply increase your dose again and stay on that for a few more days, then reduce again at a slower rate.
- The aim is to reach 3ml per day - 1 1/2ml in the morning and 1 1/2 at night.
- It is not recommended that you use progesterone cream all at once as we want to keep the progesterone levels even.
- If any of your symptoms return, up your dose, only you can decide on the required amount for you.
- The main thing is to NOT use less than the required 3ml a day once your symptoms have disappeared.
- If you are peri-menopause and suffering from irregular bleeding please use progesterone cream as per (1) above and follow the same instructions.
- Your bleeding could normalise or will stop altogether as you head into menopause.
- If you follow a monthly cycle please use progesterone cream by following your same monthly cycle. i.e. if you have a 28 day cycle then you will start the cream 14 days BEFORE your period begins.
If you do not follow the above instructions it will not work and you will think that the progesterone cream is rubbish which is totally untrue!

How to apply Natpro
Rub the required amount of cream thoroughly into the skin. To maintain the bodys' sensitivity to progesterone it helps to choose a different area to apply it to each day.
One of the key benefits of understanding how to use progesterone cream is that the cream can be applied anywhere... in the vagina or nose for dryness, on piles, painful or achy areas, burns (its amazing on burns), wonderful on the face and so on.
Important to remember is that progesterone in the form of drops and tablets do not work as 70% of it gets destroyed in the gut and liver. The best application is by using cream, injections or suppositories!
Please note:
- do not use the cream on only one small patch of skin. The continual rubbing on one spot can lead to irritation. The cream will not absorb well either.
- 1ml (1/5th tsp) will cover both feet and both legs, or both arms, stomach and chest/breasts.
- progesterone is absorbed well by the hair follicles, so it can be used anywhere.
- It's best to rotate the area daily.
- Progesterone cream is best applied twice a day to keep levels up, so split whatever daily dose is chosen. Some women prefer to use more at night, less in the morning, but it’s up to the individual.

How much Natpro to use
A 100gm (3.5 oz) dispenser contains 3333 mg of progesterone. One full pump delivers 1.5ml/50mg. The minimum amount needed is 100mg per day which is two full pumps (one in the morning and one in the evening). You may need to use more if your sumptoms are severe.
There are numerous misconceptions about how much progesterone cream you should use. For general use and to reverse mild symptoms wee recommend between 100-200pmg per day and this is based on the progesterone concentration of Natpro which is 3.33%. (it contains 33.3mg per gram or ml). Depending on the severity of your symptoms you may need to use much more than this,(400-500mg per day) and if your cream has a lower concentration of progesterone, you would need to increase your dosage to receive the same amount of progesterone daily. Once the severe symptoms have passed it is essential that the you reduce the amount you are using slowly over a few weeks until you are at the optimum level. If you reduce the amount of progesterone you are using too rapidly, you will experience the adverse effects of estrogen dominance.
It is also recommended to apply Natpro twice a day as levels start to drop after about 12-13 hours.
When first starting progesterone it can disrupt the cycle. Periods can be either earlier or later than normal. This is nothing to be concerned about, the normal cycle length will assert itself within a few cycles.
If spotting only occurs, continue using the progesterone until bleeding starts.
If a full period occurs stop using the progesterone, and begin it again 12-14 days before the next period. For further explanation on this see under Normal Cycle Lengths below.
Bleeding can be heavier in the first few cycles, also nothing to be concerned about. This is old lining which has not been shed previously.
